1. Melvyl RILM Update

Garrett Bowles reported on progress of implementation of RILM on Melvyl. He is still going through list of problems, but things look pretty clean. Will go into experimental mode in February. There are still problems with OCLC to iron out. Periodical indexing is current through 1996.
2. Melvyl Catalog and PE regeneration
Paul Machlis (UCSC) is the Music representative on the committee. We need to keep in close touch with him. Michael Colby will contact Paul and provide him with the chronology of Music concern, and the document that originated with John Roberts, most recently revised by Gordon Theil. The music specific indexes are very important to us and we need to insist that errors are corrected. Gordon asked if Law Libraries have a group similar to ours, as their uniform title needs parallel ours. Susan Bower noted that recording nos. are not retrieved correctly.
3. Web Site
Items on the web site:
       - meeting agendas
       - RILM documentation
       - C20th century composers project

Susan Bower reported that the most recent serials list has not been posted. The most recent list we have lacks UCB and UCLA input. John Roberts noted that Berkeley does not wish to take responsiblity for any serials. Which serials lists should be posted? Send ideas to Susan by email in the next week or two. Possibilities are: lists of serials with ONE or NO takers; the complete list; new subscriptions.

4. C20th Century composers committee
List from David Day is on the web site. Questions raised: What is the definition of "comprehensive"? Which other composers need to be collected comprehensively? The question of an agreement on sound recordings was raised and discussed. There was a strong consensus of opinion that the current project should be restricted to scores.

There was discussion of the questions that need to be asked, e.g.
       1. We will collect the following comprehensively...
       2. We ought to collect the following comprehensively but we are unable to...

Gordon noted that the current project in preparation to provide self-initiated ILL through Melvyl should influence our thinking. Susan raised the issue of non-comprehensive collecting, i.e. "representative" collecting. This is problematic as it is difficult to know what others are purchasing. Need for further discussion. Garrett noted that collecting by publisher is an option.

UCB, UCLA, UCSD are the only campuses participating as other budgets are too small.

FOR FALL MEETING: Need to define categories of collecting. We should have an agreement on definitions before that meeting.

5. New Business

       None.

6. Fall Meeting

Combined North/South Chapter meeting in the Fall in New SF Public Library. Our meeting could coincide.
7. News from the campuses

15%+15%+25% cuts in serials at UCB.
       18% serials cut at UCSD.
       14% cat at UCD.

On that sad note the meeting was adjourned and the participants headed for the bar.

Thanks to Stephen Davison for taking the minutes.
