The 2006 American Library Association (ALA) Salary Survey indicated that the median salary for all librarians was $56,000, up 4% from the previous year. The median salary for all (U.S. and Canadian) Association for Research Libraries (ARL) university libraries was $59,648 in 2006-07.With the baby boom generation set to retire over the next 5-10 years, the need for new academic librarians and new librarian leaders will be strong.
