The head of the Social Science Reference Section here at New York 
University has compiled this list of reasonably-priced hotels in New 
York City.  I am not personally endorsing any of these hotels since I 
have only staid in two of the many listed.  You should contact your 
travel agent for more information. If you have any questions,
though, I will be happy to at least try to answer them for you!

Located upstairs over the Brew Bar (coffee, not beer). 
Threenicely decorated rooms with private phone lines, 
answeringmachines, and TV's.  You get a $5 voucher for breakfast 
at theBrew Bar.  Although it's a B&B, this is one where the owner 
liveselsewhere, so it feels a bit like having your own apartment. 
Oneroom has the bath en suite, the other two share.  The 
onlydownside is if you're a light sleeper, since you are right 
overEighth Avenue.

Garry Rich has run this B&B for 15 years.  It is a testament tothe 
transformative powers of New Yorkers over their interiorsthat the 
backstreet quality of Crosby Street is forgotten whenyou enter 
either his high+ceilinged loft or the carriage house. The loft 
bedroom and bath are located just above Mr. Rich'spainting studio.
 There are fresh flowers and a breakfast isprovided for $85 per
night.  The carriage house has its ownentry, a small sitting room, 
a double bed and a kitchenette. Fresh flowers but no breakfast for 
$95 per night.  Bothaccommodations are decorated with artifacts 
collected by Mr. Richduring his travels to Africa, the South Seas 
and Mexico.
