I. Women's Studies Journals

Joan distributed 3 handouts:

1)Commitments by Campus Titles Under Agreement Women's/Gender/Feminist Studies Journals

2)Women's/Gender/Feminist/Studies Journals UC/Stanford Libraries, Changes June 1999

3)Women's/Gender/Feminist Studies Journals UC/Stanford Libraries "Master" List June 1999

The journals list is in draft form. Each campus should double check assigned & new titles against local catalogs and alert Joan to any problems. Discussion centered around including information about electronic copies available e.g. MAGS & CWI.

Stanford's participation was also discussed. With no assurance on their part regarding the serials agreement, last copies will be divided amongst the UC campuses.

II. Contemporary Women's Issues

Nancy Kushigian will get in touch with Mary Engle and finish negotiations with RDS. CWI will cost $900 per campus and includes unlimited access plus free access for UCSF. Since the cost is prohibitive for the smaller campuses, Nancy and Jane will recalculate the cost using a formula similar to the one used by the Art Librarians group for the Dictionary of Art. If the consortial cost for larger campuses is higher than the individual subscription, CDL should be asked to contribute the difference. Following the "Draft Cost Sharing Model" set out by the Joint Steering Committee for Shared Collections, the larger campuses should not have to subsidized the cost of including smaller campuses.

III. Microfilm Purchases

Riverside purchased Pravda full backfiles from Norman Ross.

UC should set up a trial of Godey's Lady Book. This would be useful to a number of disciplines including Theatre, Literature & History. Nancy Kushigian will take the information to the Literature bibliographers and Beth will inform the Sociology group.

Most of Adams Matthews' Colonial Discourses is available in the system.

Microfilm titles under consideration should be listed on the consortial web page by publisher before the meeting. That way everyone can come prepared to discuss specifics.

Action Item:

IV. New Journals & Web Sites

New Journals:

Sage is begininning Feminist Theory in  Spring 2000.

Men & Masculinities is a relatively new journal in high demand.

Web Sites :

The discussion centered around how individual campuses maintain their web sites for Women's Studies. Each campus has a different method. Some are required to maintain such pages and others are not. Efforts may be better placed in one consortial webpage with each campus designated a topic. Or the page could be divided by subject area and link to an individual campus page particularly strong in that area.

Action Item:

V. CDL Survey

The CDL will put out a call for survey updates by June 30th. Nancy Kushigian will gather together desirable titles and circulate it to the group. New additions include International Women's Periodicals Online (Primary Source Media), Rare Books Online: Witchcraft in Europe and America (PSM), the Gerritsen Collection (UMI) & Godey's Lady’s Book. Contemporary Women’s Issues & Women’s Resources International will be emphasized as priorities. We will also seek support from other consortial groups for these highly interdisciplinary products.

Action Items:

VI. Feminist Presses

Jacquelyn sent a letter to each press encouraging them to donate their archives. A few have already responded. Berkeley purchased Kelsey St Press's archives.

There is a copy of the revised list of presses on the consortial web page.

Finding aids should be created for these archives and digitizes as part of the Online Archive of California.
