How to Use The Visual History Archive

Access to The Archive:

Students and the general public may access The Visual History Archive (VHA) at any UCSD Library “Infostation.” Go to Databases A-Z and click on the link. If you are using the VHA for the first time, you will need to register for your own free account. Please include your email address when prompted during registration.

Currently enrolled UCSD students (as well as faculty and staff) may also search the VHA from home, but need to verify their UCSD status. To do this, you will need to download and install a piece of software called VPN (Virtual Private Network), and then logon with your UCSD mailname and password. You may then search the Archive, view detailed information about the testimonies, and request video. But current technology doesn't allow you to view the actual testimony from off-campus.

By the terms of the license with the USC Shoah Foundation Institute, members of the general public are not able to use the complete Archive from off-campus. However the public may browse a catalog which has basic information on the individuals interviewed.

Participants in the Workshop should contact Amy Edwards, the Program Manager, to connect their own laptops to the VHA.

If you request video of testimonies, please contact Elliot Kanter with the names of survivors you have requested. Also let him know when you are finished with a testimony (storage space is limited).
