Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Includes links to Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, Emerging Infectious Diseases, and CDC Prevention Guidelines. International Travelers information is excellent. Health Statistics and Health Surveillance data is available through CDC Wonder.

Census Bureau
Offers links to health statistics from several sources. The subject arrangement is helpful.

Department of Health & Human Services - Organization (DHHS)
A hierarchical list with links to DHHS services, offices, programs and institutes.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
Includes Y2K information on Biomedical equipment.

Government Printing Office (GPO)
Locate government information products available for sale through GPO. Provides a link to the U.S. Government Bookstore where you may place orders.

Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA)
One featured item is the Medicare Chartbook, an excellent resource in Medicare payment, rates, and costs.

National Academy Press (NAP) Online Reading Room
Hundreds of reports and online books on medicine, health policy, public health, preventive medicine, medical technologies and management of specific health problems. NAP publishers reports issued by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council.

National Cancer Institute (NCI)
Information about the Institute as well as information about cancer for patients and healthcare professionals. Includes a link to CancerTrials, a clinical trials database.

National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)
At the National Library of Medicine (NLM). Links to PubMed, Entrez, BLAST and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) searching.

National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS)
Includes full text of many of the statistical publications the NCHS produces (e.g., Vital and Health Statistics Series reports).

National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)

Consumer Health Government Resources

HealthFinder
From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Provides a gateway to consumer health information. Includes online publications, clearinghouses, and support groups. Includes some Spanish language material.

MEDLINEplus
From the National Library of Medicine. Provides information for consumers including a medical dictionary and information on specific common diseases and conditions, some online textbooks, newsletters, and health news sources. Links to the PubMed MEDLINE search interface. Do not confuse this with the MEDLINE Plus database from the California Digital Library (i.e, MELVYL MEDLINE Plus)!
